About "Lament"
This piece is a poignant expression of love lost/forsaken. I had written the original melody many years earlier, but never knew what to do with it from there. It was as if my life needed to take the next (painful) turn in order for the rest of the piece to be revealed. It poured out of me one sad, expressive day at the cabin in the woods where I frequently retreated to. It was as if my soul was singing out its' internal Lament.
In recording the piece, I started at the back of the Chapel and walked slowly toward the microphone while playing. Once up front, at the microphone, I play the main body of the piece. At the end, I walk slowly back up the isle (while playing the same theme), as if walking "away" from that love I had once given myself to.
The written notes, like the soul, range from lowest to highest: low b, to extra high C#. It can be played as a flute solo, or with the organ, or synthesizer (string sound), or with strings (as derived from the organ part).
